Step Up Your Safety: Empowering Students Before They Enter the Workforce
It was a small step that changed my life forever—and one that might have been avoided with the right education.
Step Up Your Safety isn’t a technical safety course. It doesn’t teach WHMIS or first aid. That’s the employer’s job. This program belongs in schools—where education begins.
It equips students with the essential workplace skills no one talks about until after an incident:
· How to be a safe worker
· How to speak up and self-advocate
· How to recognize unsafe situations
· And how to protect their own emotional and psychological safety
These are the lessons I wish I’d learned. They might have saved my leg.
As an educator, you have the power to prepare students not just to work—but to work safely. Let’s give them the tools to step confidently—and safely—into their future.
